Is Jesus fully God

God with Us

  • We are told by God through the prophet Isaiah in Isa 7:14 'Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.' Immanuel means 'God with us'. Here we can also see that God who is with us will also be human (birth to a son). So we were told by God that the Christ would be both human and God.

  • God told us through Micah that the King of Israel from the tribe of Judah would come whose origins are from ancient times Mic 5:2

  • God told us through Isaiah that the King would be born (a human) and would reign forever (God lives forever) in Isa 9:6-7

  • In John 1:14 here we are told that the Word became flesh. In John 1:1 we are told that the Word is God. So Jesus being the Word was God and He also became human (flesh).

  • In John 16:28 Jesus is talking to the disciples before His death and He tells them that 'I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.' He is testifying that He is God and became human and is returning to God the Father.

  • In Col 2:9 Paul says 'For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form' Paul is telling us that Christ being fully human is also fully God.

  • In Heb 1:3 says The Son is the radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. In the original language, the meaning of 'exact representation' means indistinguishable from the other.

  • In John 17:5 Jesus is praying after talking with the disciples. In His prayer He reveals that He was with the Father before the creation of the world. Thus confirming what John wrote in chapter 1 of John's gospel.

  • In Matt 26:63-64 Jesus is on trial before the high priest The high priest said to him, 'I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.' 'Yes, it is as you say,' Jesus replied. 'But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.' So Jesus tells the high priest under oath that He is the Christ and that He will return to the Father (Mighty One). And we clearly know that Jesus is human which again shows that Jesus was fully God and fully human.

  • Jesus said many times that He and the Father are One: John 10:30,38 14:7-10 17:10 Matt 11:27

God the creator

We are told in Genesis 1 that God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. So below you will see that Jesus created the heavens and the earth. Thus Jesus is God.

  • In John 1:1-3, John the apostle tells us that Jesus was with God before the creation of the world. He also tells us that He was God. And all things that are created were created through Him. So not only is Jesus God, He also was the agent that the Father used to create the world.

  • The apostle Paul says the same thing in Col 1:16. 'For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.'

  • The author of Hebrews in Heb 1:2 tells the same. 'but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.'

God revealed through miracles

Jesus told the leader of Israel...Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, I am Gods Son? Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father. John 10:38

Summary

  • We see that Jesus and the Father clearly are God.

  • We also see that Jesus clearly came into His creation as a human like us. He came with a specific purpose, to redeem what was lost (John 3:16-18).

  • We were told in advance that He would suffer (Isa 52:13 through Isa 53:12).

  • He suffered for me. He suffered for you.
